The Hierophant
The Hierophant sits between two pillars in ceremonial robes, hand raised in benediction, two acolytes kneeling before him. He wears the triple crown and holds the keys to heaven. He is the representative of sacred tradition — the teacher, the institution, the bridge between human and divine through established systems of knowledge and belief.
⬆ Upright Meaning
Upright, the Hierophant calls you to seek wisdom through established channels — formal education, traditional spiritual practices, mentorship, or institutions that carry collective knowledge. This is a time to honor tradition and work within existing structures rather than against them. A wise teacher or guide may appear, or you may find meaning by belonging to a community of shared values.
⬇ Reversed Meaning
Reversed, he represents rebellion against rigid convention — a desire to question established authority and find your own truth. You may feel stifled by dogma and institutional constraints. This is a call to independent thinking, but also an invitation to examine whether rules you're breaking serve genuine liberation or simply self-indulgence.
